The FIP World Cup is the more prestigious international competition for national teams. The tournament has been held every two years since 1992.

10 men's and 10 women's teams have automatically qualified for November's FIP World Cup by virtue of their performances at last year's event.

The remaining six places are decided by four continental qualifying competitions, staged across Europe, North and Central America, South America and Asia-Africa.

At the end of the FIP World Cup Qualifiers in North and Central America, and South America, 13 national teams will have qualified in each competition. The line-up will then be completed by the European qualifiers which will award two places in both the men's and women's competitions, and by the combined Africa-Asia Qualifier who will take up the final qualification place in each competition.

The FIP World Cup European qualification stage will see 55 national teams from 29 countries, competing for four places (two men’s, two women’s) in the FIP World Cup draw between 22-26 September.

Spain are the current world champions in the women's event, while Argentina are defending champions on the men's side.

Argentina hold the record for the most men's FIP World Cup titles, having won the tournament 12 times, while Spain lead the way in the women's tournament with nine titles to their name. They have won the last six editions of the women's FIP World Cup.
