Christian Medina Murphy claims first title of the year at FIP Bronze Tashkent

• 2 minutes read

British No.1 Christian Medina Murphy has secured his first title of the year after winning the FIP Bronze Tashkent in Uzbekistan with his Spanish partner Alberto Garcia Jiminez.

The top seeds produced a dominant performance throughout the week, dropping just one set on their way to lifting the trophy.

Their most challenging match came against the fourth seeded Spaniards, Joel Olivera Palos and Javier Lopez Garcia, in a match that went the distance. In the final, Medina Murphy and Jiminez came up against the fourth seeds, Gustavo Nunes from Portugal and Renzo Gabriel Nunez from Argentina, and comfortably claimed the title 6-3, 6-1.

This victory marks Medina Murphy’s first title in in 2026, and fifth in his career.

“It’s an incredible feeling to come away with the title after a challenging weekend,” said Medina Murphy. “I was in hospital on Saturday and then suffered a deep cut to my finger during the warm-up before the final, so to overcome those setbacks and still produce a solid, good performance makes this win particularly special.

“This is our first FIP title of the season and, after reaching three finals, I’m super happy to win a tournament this year. This win gives us a lot of confidence heading into the final four weeks of the season, and we’re excited to keep building momentum and try and win another title before the year ends.”

The FIP Tour is a professional-level circuit officially sanctioned by the International Padel Federation (FIP) and is the first stage of the professional padel circuit, featuring four levels of competition - bronze, silver, gold, and platinum.

Medina Murphy now turns his attention to this week's FIP Bronze in Espoo, Finland.

Elsewhere on the FIP Tour, the British pairing of Nikhil Mohindra and Sam Jones reached the quarter-finals at the FIP Silver Dubai, but lost out to the second seeds.

On the international stage, the Great Britain women’s team got their FIP World Cup campaign under way in Doha, Qatar, earlier today. Updates can be found on the LTA Padel website.
